About Me:

My name is Olivia Rose. I was born February 19th 2012 with a large congenital nevus on my cheek. I am a very talkative 18 month old, and I absolutely adore my big sissy. My mommy is concerned about the cancer risk associated with my nevus, as well as the psychological effects that such a prominent birthmark may have on me as i grow older. A nevus of this size does not go away on its own, and the cancer risk will be there until it is removed.

Through lots of research...

My mom found a world renowned specialist, Dr. Bruce Bauer, who specializes in the removal of congenital nevi. Unfortunately, the insurance I am covered under has refused to approve the procedure with Dr. Bauer, even after filing a grievance and an appeal. The two procedures required to remove my nevus, as well as travel expenses, will be paid out of pocket.

So here is the plan:

I am heading to Chicago to see Dr. Bauer for my first surgery in mid November, and will go back for my follow up surgery in the beginning of next year. My mom has secured a reservation through the Ronald McDonald House and is looking into discounts on flights. I am reaching out to friends, family, and the community for support and prayers as I embark on this journey.
